I have learned so much about web development while studying at Utah Valley University. Everything from web languages to web graphic applications to make a website absolutely shine and come to life. I really enjoy coding a website together by hand because I truly learn, know, and understand why it works so I can be more self-reliant. My studies as far as web languages go have consisted mostly of HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jquery, and some PHP (more next semester!).
As far as applications go, I am pretty familiar with the whole Adobe Creative Suite. My classes have used and focused heavily on Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Indesign, and many more.
One of the reasons why I love the Digital Media program at Utah Valley University is because they're on the cutting edge of technology. They know and realize that the use of the web is becoming more and more "mobile". So we have been learning how to not only build efficient web pages in multiple browsers, but on various mobile platforms (iPhone, Android, etc).
I have also had the opportunity to work as a beta tester for Livestream Media and specialized in the video broadcasting part of the group I was assigned to. This class has taught me so much about live video broadcasting over the internet.
I recently finished my Senior Project by working with a group of five to construct a fully functional website, film and edit a promotional video, and design and print a pamphlet of the organization known as Common Bonds through IHC. Our project lasted two semesters long (about 9 months). As far as the website goes, we chose to implement a Joomla! 1.5 web content management system. Our client had a blogspot previously and it was difficult to have her information, calendar, and blogs presented in a professional manor. So by creating a CMS for her to use, we were able to exceed her expectations and also implement a donate button. This one project alone has taught me what is expected and required to be a web developer in the work force. I have learned a lot and gained a lot of skills from working together with my team of developers. Below is a link to the final product we delivered.
I currently work as a web developer and graphic design for Classic Recreation also known as Classic Fun Center. For the past 6 months, they have asked me to give their website a makeover since it hasn't been updated in a long time. I quickly found myself updating their website and designing and re-designing literally every graphic in their building and their new expansion. Below is also a link to their site where I've assisted with their site. I'm currently working on redesigning a new user interface and constructing a database where we can automatically email parents and spectators specials and deals.
